“The soil is the great connector of lives, the source and destination of all. It is the healer and restorer and resurrector, by which disease passes into health, age into youth, death into life. Without proper care for it we can have no community, because without proper care for it we can have no life.”
― Wendell Berry, The Unsettling of America: Culture and Agriculture

Jodi Roebuck is an international renowned Biointensive Gardening educator, Restoration Grazing consultant and the man behind Roebuck Farm, one of the world’s most inspiring sustainable & profitable small scale working farms located in Taranaki, New Zealand.

“On a sliver of his farm, Roebuck is developing a thriving vegetable business: intensive, chemical-free – and profitable. It’s put him at the international vanguard of a new way of market gardening. And it’s a small model that could have a big impact on how we think about food security, climate-change resilience and nutrition in the very near future.”

I came across Jodi and his families fantastic small scale bio intensive Farm on Country Calendar. It’s a fantastic episode that you can watch here. Jodi demonstrated such an inspiring and holistic way of farming and something i’m so passionate about and is so needed with the current issues of climate change and human health.

'Roebuck is a huge believer in the potential of soil-carbon sequestration and its effects on healthy food production - it's a key factor in both in both his gardening techniques and his sheep grazing. "

According to the new UN Farming Report “Wake Up Before It's Too Late”, major changes are needed in our food, agriculture and trade systems, with a shift toward local small-scale farmers and food systems recommended. That is why the work of Jodi and other small-scale and organic farmers is so important.

So it was a real joy to talk to the Jodi and dig up some farming insights on how we can change the world one farm and garden at a time.

Make sure you check out his work and upcoming workshops online, the links below and support local sustainable and organic farmers like Jodi for the benefit of all,

Think less, experience more and eat local and organic,

Doug
